[Zen Cart] URLs for products linked between categories

Postby mygreenerhome » Mon Feb 16, 2009 6:48 am

Please forgive me if this is covered elsewhere but I have not found it.

I have products that are linked between categories in my zen-cart setup. In one case, the product listing is pointing to the linked category and not the master category (details below). Searching through the zen-cart forum reveals that the answer is usually something to do with SEO rewrite software (I hope I'm not pointing the finger wrongly).

Details:
If you hover your mouse over the "listing" button in the top middle of this product description:
http://www.mygreenerhome.co.uk/recyclin ... or-73.html
you will see that it takes you to the listing of the products in that category. This works fine.

If you hover over the listing button of:
http://www.mygreenerhome.co.uk/heat-sav ... r-266.html
you will see that it takes you to the parent category where this product was linked to, and not to the master category. It is only this button that doesn't work. The "prev" and "next" buttons work fine.

Could this be a Magic SEO URL issue?
Thanks,
Edwin

Please read related thread Multiple URLs to one product is not duplication? where you will find how Master Categories are handled by MSU.

Many thanks for pointing me to that thread.
I have checked and I have the latest version.
I have checked my msu_tweak.ini and use_master_category = true
But I still have products being assigned to linked categories. Why is it not working as planned?
Thanks,
Edwin

This is because MSU cache was not yet updated. Clean the cache or visit all such URLs and records get updated.

I have deleted all the entries in the cache and they have been rebuilt, but the previous, listing and next entries seem random.
See:

http://www.mygreenerhome.co.uk/solar-po ... er-41.html

Why are the destination URLs for the "prev", "listing", and "next" all wrong?

Sorry to keep pestering you on this - the mod is a must have for any Zen-cart site and I would love to solve this anomaly.

I have checked your web site and Prev/Next links worked fine for me. Could you please post here what links do you expect are correct? Thanks.

Hi, thanks for taking time here.

If you select the Solar Power category(on the left), then torches and lamps, then Powerplus Eagle, you should be looking at the product description. The master category for this product is Solar Power.
When I look at the prev, listing and next links I see:
Prev: master category changes to Wind up radios
Listing: master category changes to Answers
Next: master category changes to Standby Power savers

This means that the customer cannot browse through the products in the Solar Power sub category as intended.

Regards, Edwin

This can be caused by ZC cPath variable value which is respected or by assigning one or more categories to Prev/Next products.

I'm not sure I understand that information. What do I do to fix both of those issues please?

Nothing, it is by ZC design. There is a special thread about it: [Zen Cart] Multiple URLs to one product is not duplication?
