[Zen Cart] purge fancy-data cache

Postby donhohler » Mon Mar 22, 2010 6:23 am

My fancy-data cache directory has accumulated over 46000 files. This is posing a problem with my host which limits me to a total of 50000 files. Can I purge this directory - the .htaccess and index.html files, without causing problems?

Thanks,
Don

You can safely delete all files in this directory except .htaccess and index.html file.

After deleting the cached files there was an immediate drop in the number of indexed files in Webmaster tools. Although the number indexed pages quickly started to climb, they never recovered to previous levels. I actually have only 50% of my pages back from before I deleted the cache files. I confirmed these results with the site: command. I have given almost two months for the index to recover, but no luck. It seems to me that deleting the cached files was not a good idea.

Deleting any files in cache/fancy-data/ folder has NO AFFECT to your URLs or number of indexed pages. Virtually, you can run Magic SEO URL with cache turned off (by settings read only permissions) and all your URLs will remain same (however your server performance will be affected).
