[Zen Cart] New Domain

Postby crichw » Thu Aug 20, 2009 5:20 pm

Installed magic seo, worked great. Then I changed my domain name and now its not working even after a reinstall of magic.

Any ideas??

Thanks

What are your old new web site's URLs?

Hi ~J~, see, I read the posts. :D

*Same* exact thing happened to me as well. We went from http://test.bamboohq.com with our initial installation of MSU to http://www.bamboohq.com and this completely destroyed a perfectly good SEO'd site with 350 products, and dropped it back into junky query strings. Interestingly, the issue is that even after 3 separate reinstallations, .htaccess will not configure and /fancy-data will not either....each at 777 wide open. Rolling back to the original backed-up fancy-data and .htaccess did no get the nice URLs back either. I commented out the //include(DIR_WS_INCLUDES . 'magic_seo_url.php'); and I see the exact same thing as when it is uncommented. MSU worked great and then stoppped working on domain name change.

I have already written you email on this ~J~, looking forward to your always-fast reply.....the new domain is propagating as we wait!

The reason why it is not working is because the package was enabled for http://www.bambooheadquarters.com instead of http://www.bamboohq.com (I don't remember why).

Please re-download the package.

Thanks ~J~ the site is functional again now.

I read some other posts though about how only *some* of the site links are being handled by MSU; indeed when I spidered my new site with Xenu just now (Quality Control) I find that the spider finds query string links. For those that worry about this sort of thing: these are just image links and not page links. Spiders care much less about non-content image links and they are not equivalent to other things on the site, so this is not a decrease in optimization. MSU is doing it right.

2 things though that I hope you can advise on.

1) With the new .htaccess file active (is is 101K in size) the site loads visibly slower. I rename the file and it speeds up. Pretty sure all the rewriteconditions regex are sucking up cpu and ram.

2) "X-Enhanced-By: Magic SEO URL for ZenCart" in my headers. I am not wild about this. I take great pains to keep my headers minimal and not reveal much about my server, even hiding that it is PHP or Apache versions. I already get hammered by script-kiddies poking ZenCart and I would like to avoid more. Is this header encoded? Can it be removed for the purchase price of the software?

Try to set "Supported Category Depth" (category_depth) in includes/msu_tweak.ini file to lower value. If you are using short URIs mode (uri_mode = "short"), you can set it to 1.

This HTTP header can not be removed. However, Zen Cart installation can be recognized very easily, it is not necessary to study HTTP headers. The important thing is that there is no MSU or Zen Cart version in this HTTP header.
