[phpBB] PHP 5.4 & Zend Optimizer

We are trying to move phpbb2 to a server running PHP to 5.4 in order to facilitate a migration from phpBB2 to a different platform. We have been happily running Magic SEO URL for PHPBB on that site for years.

Unfortunately, when I try to runn phpBB2 on the new server, I get the error that Zend Optimizer is not installed. I've been told that Zend Optimizer has been replaced by Zen Guard in 5.4 on cpanel.

FWIW, I'm a technical person and a Linux admin, but I have no idea what Zen Optimizer or Zen Guard actually do here, so I'm not sure how to proceed.

Am I up the proverbial creek?

Zend Optimizer or Zend Guard Loader are required in order to run MSU. It is PHP extension freely available at http://www.zend.com/en/products/guard/downloads for download. However, Zend Guard Loader has not been released for PHP 5.4 yet. You will need to switch to PHP 5.3 or older PHP branch.

Alright, they have enabled 5.3 and Zend Guard Loader. Phpbb works if I comment out the include line for magic seo, but if I put it in, I just get a blank page.

Thoughts?

Please take a look to the Troubleshooting section how to debug blank page.
