[osCommerce] Redirect 301

Postby hmignon » Mon Dec 06, 2010 12:17 pm

Dear,

When we delete a product in are database and we go to this url:

http://www.fun4gays.eu/nl/domination-47 ... -1220.html

He gives us a 301 status but we need a 404 status because this product no longer exist.

How can we get that with magic seo ?

Thx,

Hans

Dear,

No that is not correct if you go to this url:

http://www.fun4gays.eu/nl/domination-47 ... -1220.html

he move to this url:

http://www.fun4gays.eu/product_info.php ... anguage=nl

that means 301 redirect.
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently =>
Date => Mon, 06 Dec 2010 20:19:20 GMT
Server => Apache
Set-Cookie => cookie_test=please_accept_for_session; expires=Wed, 05-Jan-2011 20:19:20 GMT; path=/; domain=.fun4gays.eu
Location => http://www.fun4gays.eu/product_info.php ... anguage=nl
Content-Length => 0
Connection => close
Content-Type => text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

This product is deleted from are product range so he has to give 404 page:

http://www.fun4gays.eu/hgjhg

Because now it is not correct for google. The url is not moved but because the product is not longer on the site so he has to give a 404 status;

How do we change that ?

Hans

301 Status code is only the predecessor of HTTP 404 Not Found status code in the whole process.

(Use a more advanced tool such as wget to find out how this process works when MSU installed).

Dear,

The problem is that we have many products with moved permatly status in google. We have contacted google and they told us this is normal because are site is telling that.

You can check it here:

http://www.webconfs.com/http-header-check.php

And how is it possible that he redirect a product that is no longer in the database.

So how can we addapt it that we get no redirect but a 404 status and the 404 page ?

Please read my previous post more carefully. At this time it works the best way it can. It can not be done better (sending HTTP 404 code only does not make required changes to Search index - it just confuses the crawler especially if you delete too many items from database).
