Migrating to new URL structure...

This is an unusual situation.
I'm moving to a new shopping cart, it has a different URL structure.

I'm adding this "301 Redirect" to the htaccess, but it gets overwritten by MSU each time (even though permission is set to 444)???

# Permanent URL redirect
Redirect 301 /category-77/product-name-633.html http://www.domain.com/shop/product-name-p131c2
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is REALLY important, I have to preserve my backlink history. My site marketing is solely focused on SEO optimization, it's mission critical.

How do I get a custom "301 Redirect" to work in tandem with MSU?

You need to properly install MSU and either setup read-only permissions of the .htaccess file and/or create a file named "readonly-htaccess" within the same directory.
