[Zen Cart] Zen Cart 1.3.9 support

Postby BlessIsaacola » Tue Apr 13, 2010 10:30 am

J-

I know it's a bit early but it would be nice to get your thoughts on how Zen Cart 1.3.9 released yesterday might after MSU especially with the new feature introduced for dealing with canonical urls.

Thanks!

There is no compatibility issue.

"Canonical URL" support added in 1.3.9 version is logical step, because Zen Cart is known for lot of duplicate content. However, it is still much more better to use 301 Redirect or even better avoid duplicate content at all (with Magic SEO URL).
For more details please see interview with Matt Cutt (that works for the Search Quality group in Google) at http://www.stonetemple.com/articles/int ... 2510.shtml

You can often use 301 Redirects for duplicate URLs to merge those together into one single URL. If you are not able to do a 301 Redirect, then you can fall back on rel=canonical.

(on duplicate content:) "What we try to do is merge pages, rather than dropping them completely"
Magic SEO URLs are now available for
osCommerce, CRE Loaded, Zen Cart, PrestaShop, OpenCart, CubeCart, phpBB and phpBB3!

Thanks for the prompt update. I am not going to go there because we've been there before but MSU technically doesn't support no duplicate without breaking things like Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing and such.

Glad to know that we can upgrade to 1.3.9 without any changes to MSU.

Thanks!
