My cache folder is located above the www directory per the Zen-Cart.com Security Recommendations. Its not accessable from a browser so that wouldnt work for this add-on?
I tried it but I had to create another cache folder under the www directory to make it work.

This is used to cache session and database information. The BEST security protection for this is to move it to a folder "above" the public_html/htdocs/www area, so that it's not accessible via a browser. (Requires changes to DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE setting in configure.php files as well as Admin > Configuration > Sessions > Session Directory."

Moving cache folder to another location may improve security for some type of attacks, but it is not necessary if some other basic security rules are fulfilled.

It works fine if I just add another cache folder under the www directory.

I think its the Numinix add-on that looks at the DIR_FS_SQL_CACHE setting for the cache folder location.
